LABOR’S FAIR GO FOR SPORTING WOMEN AND GIRLS

A Shorten Labor Government will support local Carina sport club to support increased female participation and give women and girls a fair go in sport.

If elected to Government, Labor will provide $800,000 to the AC Carina Football Club to construct an additional soccer pitch and proper facilities for their growing number of female players.

AC Carina celebrates its 40th anniversary this season and since 2014 has fielded a growing number of women’s teams.

The facilities have not been able to keep pace with the surge in popularity for women’s soccer driven by the W-League, Matildas and players like Sam Kerr.

“I’m delighted a Shorten Labor Government will support this great local club,” Labor candidate for Bonner Jo Briskey said.

“This funding will ensure all players have access to the facilities they need, from kids who just want to play sport right through to players looking to take the step up into high performance pathways.”

Labor is committed to supporting communities improve local sporting facilities to give all Australians a fair go at sport, whether they dream of being the next Sam Kerr and one day representing Australia, or just want to play for their local club and be active.

Our investments in local sporting clubs like AC Carina will help communities build capacity to meet growing number of women and girls playing team sports.

This commitment delivers on Labor’s goals of making women welcome in sporting clubs and supporting a fair go for women and girls who want to play sport.
